Tiny Gallery | Mr. Violet. “Growing up in Chinatown was a blast. As a kid, we were always on the street. We didn’t have Playstation games and all that, so we got into all kinds of mischief to occupy our time. Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find on […]
Tiny Gallery | Mr. Brown. On acting – “I think that maybe people, when they see a guy with a giant beard or even a weird handlebar mustache sitting in a corner by himself, they probably make assumptions about him. Tiny Gallery | Mr. Black. On his work photographing musicians – “We end up finding the right place and the right atmosphere. And I love it at night in Los Angeles, because you can basically go anywhere. You’re free. There’s no one on the streets. You do whatever you want.” Levi DropI’m a writer living […]
Meet Yuska. “I kinda want to be a war journalist, but I don’t want to die. Well actually, when you’re at war, you don’t really have the option. You just have to be a journalist or you can be, you can’t save people. Sometimes, all I want to do is take the child away, or give shelter to those in need. That’s why I don’t volunteer at animal hospitals and shelters because I’ll end up just taking them away to my home.”
Tiny Gallery | Mr. Pink. “My favorite writer is Sylvia Plath. I like her because she can turn her tragedy and her sadness into something powerful.” Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find on Instagram. Tiny Gallery | Williamsburg. I was watching Nolan paint his Fruta Fresca series, which were made of wooded slats that resembled a fruit crate. I told him he should scramble the slats to create a new image. He didn’t do it, so I did, which was the start of my Reconstruction Series. Levi DropI’m a […]
The Portrait of Nolan. I had wanted to paint Nolan for a while. We had worked together at a startup where I took mugshots of the team. I like that photo of him because he looks so different now. He was so Rockabilly. REBEL | 2014 Oil and acrylic on wood 24″ x 17″ Levi […]
The Heavy J.C. Leyendecker created these painting in the twenties, where the edges of the image disappeared. He knew what not to draw, to make the things he actually drew somewhat more important. This is my homage to his idea of leaving well enough alone. Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis […]
I had to make a logo for a Ringtone App. The fellas I was working with were fixated on some kind of mascot. I tend to shy away from mascots, as they are difficult to get right. Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find on Instagram. When I get […]
The Team at Jamdat. I worked for a while at a startup called Jamdat. When I joined the company, there were four people, so I drew everyone. Four years later, I had 87 illustrations. They started quite simplistic, but over the years, I got better. I did a good job if I really liked you, or if you really annoyed me. Anyone caught in the lull of my mood spectrum got a competent likeness, but nothing to write home about.
The Team at Geodelic. I was the Creative Director for a company called Geodelic, for which I had designed an awesome logo. I always try to do something team building with the staff, so I resorted to the old stand-by. Mugshots for all.
The Team at Bellrock. I was the Creative Director at Bellrock, which was the origin of the mugshot. I was in charge of putting together the office, which was looked like a 1940’s police station. We had this line up wall painting in the lobby, which was the perfect backdrop for the Polaroids we took.
Man & Machine. I wanted the images to relate to the media, which were two pieces of wood, one rough and weathered and the other crisply finished. I rendered of the portrait to change at the border between old and new. Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find on […]
The Portrait of Todd. I accidentally painted a fairly good portrait of Todd. It centered around his pensive stair and this giant spark plug. Incidentally, Todd is very into cars. Russell’s come undone. Originally, this painting was three squares. Then I combined it into two rectangles. Finally one piece. But, I thought there was one thing left to do to make it complete. A Man in New York City. Russell had lost his shirt and he knew he was going to freckle. His pink skin had been hot to the touch upon entering the F train, but the icy blast of air-conditioning now had him chilled Levi DropI’m a writer living in Los Angeles, making emojis of faces I find […]
